Third Year Bachelor of Industrial Design Project
Communal Toothbrush Sterilizer
Goal
This project aimed to create a new and innovative toothbrush sterilizer product aimed at a niche market. I chose to design my product for communal living situations, like student residences or any other scenarios where a bathroom is shared for toothbrushing purposes.
Research
The research for this project mainly focused on ways to distinguish ones toothbrush from others when grouped together closely. Research was mainly conducted through testing and interviews.
The result of this research was a sorting system that relied on unique shaped holes for each toothbrush, allowing for easy recognition of an individuals toothbrush.
Process
Development of this product was done through the use of cardboard mockups and digital 3D models.
Product
The final product, a looks like model, was created using 3d printing and foamcore board. The product aimed to give a clinical and unassuming appearance, so as to better fit into any communal bathroom environment.
